"Make new friends and keep the old" should be the motto of Online Scouting. Where else can you meet Scouters from across the country who understand what you are going through with your troop and will offer valuable advice (or at the least sympathy). Where else can you learn what the newest cookie flavors will be? Where else can you read first hand accounts of Scouts doing what Scouts do best? Helping, sharing and doing good deeds. I'm hooked on-line! (While the new friends are great I keep hoping to run across an golden, old friend or two!)

An International Friendship Ceremony
Girl Scouts come from many lands,
All with smiles and helping hands.
Though they speak a different way,
The Law, the Promise, they obey.
I light the black candle in friendship for all
The black-skinned Scouts and Guides in the world.

The cultures of the nations vary from one to
another; this is necessary, but we all have basic
needs. We wish to be recognized, to be called by
name and to be loved.
Continents and oceans are easily spanned.
Telestar orbits, bringing the world together.
Let us strive each day, to highlight the ideas of
international friendship and understanding.

Each layer in this candle represents one of the worlds of interest in Girl Scouting:
The purple is for the World of the Arts. This world can help develop a personal appreciation for the many art forms and things of beauty in the world around us.
The blue is for the World of People. This world can help a young woman to build pride in her own heritage while appreciating the uniqueness of each culture and the common themes of all cultures.
The red is for the World of Well-being, which helps young women understand themselves, their values, needs, emotions, and strengths, while also being aware of what it takes to be physically fit.
The orange is for the World of Today and Tomorrow, which lets a young woman look into the how and why of things, solve problems, and recognize the ways in which her present interests and build toward future ones.
The yellow is for the World of the Out-of-Doors. Explorations in this world can help a young woman appreciate her natural environment and to take actions to protect and preserve her world.
The green base represents the philosophy of Girl Scouting as set forth in the Promise and the Law.
The two seals represent the rich traditions of Girl Scouting's past and the promises of Girl Scouting's future.
The ribbon is tied with a Friendship Knot,(whose four squares represent the four directions of the compass) which is a symbol of the sisterhood Girl Scouts everywhere share.
